Snake Tattoos / Meanings and Ideas

Snake Tattoo meaning – a snake tattoo has a lot of meanings, such as: fertility (mostly in the Indian culture), wisdom (mostly in the Neo-Paganism culture), knowledge (both in Neo-Paganism culture, but also in the Wicca culture), devil (just like medusa or skull tattoos), death (they cause death and fear to humans – Grim Reaper, remember him? They have a lot of posion, maybe some of them), rebirth (like a phoenix bird) and life (read more about it here), healing (mostly in the ancient Greece or in the Jewish religion), protection (in some religions – Christianity or Hindu, the snakes mean protection), temptation (remember the snake from the Bible?).

If you are born in these years, you are in the Snake year: 1989, 2001, 1977 or even 1965. Some people have snake tattoos based on their Chinese Zodiac year. Do you want some pictures for your next snake tattoo?

Snake Tattoo Symbolism:

  • Chinese Zodiac: you can find the snake in the Chinese Zodiac, along with the tiger, goat and other animals (12 snimals). Do you know that there are theories that the snakes evolved from lizards?
  • Greek mythology: The God Asclepius was related to medicine and healing. He had a snake for it. The snake is also the biggest and most used symbol of medicine today, yet found on many ambulances, in different, if not all, countries.
  • Hindu religion: these people are related/worship the cobra snakes.
  • Jewish religion: also in this religion (altough snakes are dangerous and deathly sometimes), the snakes are related to healing.
  • Christianity religion: the snakes are a symbol of protection, but so they are in the Hindu religion. You can also find the snake in the Bible (somehow he was the evil or even Satan).
  • Wicca religion: in this religion the snakes are the symbol of wisdom.
